“I love my job, I love it here and I loved being a student at TAFE Queensland,” said Ethan a very satisfied student to thriving professional at the Green Fields Bar + Restaurant. TAFE Queensland Certificate III in Hospitality (SIT30622) student, Ethan Swinney, completed his qualification in 2022 at the TAFE Queensland Robina Campus. During Ethan’s study he was provided with real-world training in the onsite restaurant, Green Fields Bar + Restaurant. His remarkable transition from study to employment stands as a testament to the exceptional training and real-world experience provided by TAFE Queensland.
Throughout his time at TAFE Queensland, Ethan was fortunate to learn practical training at the prestigious Green Fields Bar + Restaurant. The opportunity to learn in an actual restaurant setting proved invaluable, equipping him with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the industry.
"Learning onsite was brilliant and allowed me to gain hands-on experience, improve my customer service skills, and master the art of crafting coffees and drinks."
“My knowledge of food and beverages grew astronomically. I knew nothing about wine and now I have such an appreciation for food and wine and enjoy helping people make their selection,” he said.
Learning in a real restaurant setting allowed me to learn on the job and practice how to correctly welcome guests and give great customer service before going out into industry.
“I felt very confident after graduating, I didn’t expect myself to be working at Green Fields Bar + Restaurant but I love what I am doing which is the best part of it and why I love working here,” Ethan said.
“Currently, I hold the position of a Food and Beverage Attendant and Supervisor, where I am actively involved in managing the staff under my supervision. However, my ultimate goal is to advance my career and become the Restaurant Manager.”
It’s great educating the current cohort of Certificate 3 in Hospitality (SIT30622) students. I can relate to their thoughts, feelings, and experiences as I've been there before. I understand the challenges they face, which makes it easy for me to empathise with them and offer guidance.
Ethan is now an active spokesperson for the Certificate 3 in Hospitality (SIT30622) where he recently spoke on a panel about his experience attending TAFE Queensland at the 2023 Gold Coast Careers Festival.
Ethan's story stands as a testament to the transformative power of education and hands-on training. Through TAFE Queensland's commitment to providing real-world experiences and fostering industry connections, students like Ethan are empowered to embark on a journey of growth, success, and fulfilment in the vibrant world of hospitality.
